COVID-19 and Relative Humidity
Covid-19 has taken over the world and there does not seem to be an end in sight. A vaccine is what is ultimately needed, but presently we just need to take all the precautions we can to reduce the spread of this virus.
Social distancing, washing hands and all the other things help reduce the spread, but there is ONE MORE thing we CAN do to help.
We need to increase the humidity levels in our living and work environments to the 40-60% relative humidity (RH) levels. Many scientific studies prove that keeping the RH between 40 and 60% drastically reduces the spread of this virus in several ways. Viruses live longer at a relative humidity below 40%. Aerosols from coughs or sneezes evaporate before they can fall to the floor in lower humidity, making the virus airborne. And your body stays healthier in the 40-60% RH range.
If you have a humidification system in your facility or home, make sure it is operational. If you can keep it at 40-60% RH, please do so.
